چکیده

The algorithms of queue management in IP routers determine which packet should be deleted when necessary. The active queue management, recommended by IETF, enhances the efficiency of transfers and cooperate with TCP congestion window mechanism in adapting the flows intensity to the congestion of a network. The article investigates the influence of the way of choosing packets to be dropped (end of the queue, head of the queue) on the performance, i.e. response time for in case of RED and ARED queues – two representative active queue management mechanisms used in Linux based IP routers.

Fixed and Adaptive Model-Based Controllers for Active Queue Management

In this paper we present new model-based controllers for active queue management (AQM) supporting TCP ows. Our control design is based on linearization of a previously developed TCP model using uid ow and stochastic di erential equations. An AQM using a simple PI controller is shown to signi cantly outperform RED AQM. However, we show that both AQMs are unable to maintain performance as the num...

A simulation study of the Adaptive RIO (A-RIO) queue management algorithm

Active queue management (AQM) algorithms are useful not only for congestion avoidance purposes, but also for the differentiated forwarding of packets, as is done in the DiffServ architecture. It is well known that correctly setting the parameters of an AQM algorithm may prove difficult and error-prone. Besides, many studies have shown that the performance of AQM mechanisms is very sensitive to ...

Analysis of RED-Family Active Queue Management Over a Wide-Range of TCP Loads

RED is an Active Queue Management (AQM) technique that is intended to achieve high link utilization with a low queuing delay. Recent studies show that RED is difficult to configure for some rapidly changing traffic mixes and loads [2]. Other studies show that under some conditions, the performance gains of RED and its variants over traditional drop-tail queue management is not significant given...

PI-PD Controller for Adaptive and Robust Active Queue Management for Internet Congestion Control

Since random early detection (RED) was proposed in 1993, many active queue management (AQM) algorithms have been proposed to support better end-to-end Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) congestion control. In this article, the authors introduce and analyze a feedback control model of the TCP/AQM dynamics. Then they suggest the concept of an AQM algorithm that can detect and avoid congestion pr...

Analysis of Active Queue Management

Active Queue Management (AQM) is intended to achieve high link utilization with a low queuing delay. Recent studies show that RED, one of the most well-known AQMs, is difficult to configure and does not provide significant performance gains given the complexity required for proper configuration. Recent variants of RED, such as Adaptive-RED are designed to provide more robust RED performance und...

FQL-RED: an adaptive scalable schema for active queue management

In a potentially congested network, random early detection (RED) active queue management (AQM) proved effective in improving throughput and average queuing delay. The main disadvantage of RED is its sensitive parameters that are impossible to estimate perfectly and adjust manually because of the dynamic nature of the network. For this reason, RED performs differently during different phases of ...
